What is the most important thing to keep in mind as an educator?
As an educator, I believe it is important to treat each student, first and foremost, as a person, and to always interact with them with honesty and respect. I make a conscious effort to say “thank you” and “I’m sorry” and to express these feelings in words whenever appropriate.
I am also grateful for the feedback I receive from those around me and try to accept it with an open mind. I value staying humble and continuing to learn, always looking for ways to grow.
High school students may sometimes seem like adults, but they are still young people who are growing and developing. I believe it is my responsibility as an educator to remember their vulnerability and immaturity, and to continue to look out for them and support them with care.

Your specialty or area of focus
My professional background is rooted in school psychology. As an educational consultant, I led multidisciplinary teams of specialists in responding to the individual strengths and needs of each student. Through my experience of engaging in dialogue with teachers, parents, and specialists from a range of perspectives, I have developed a strong foundation for my current role as a DP Coordinator, in which I collaborate with teachers across subject areas to support students’ growth and learning.
What qualities do you want the students to have after they graduate?
Because students will spend far more of their lives after graduation than they will in school, I hope they will develop a mindset of lifelong learning.
Success is not the end. It is the beginning of the next challenge. Even when they fail, I want students to have the courage to move forward and the resilience to get back up and keep going.
During their time in secondary school, I hope students will have many opportunities to experience failure, recover from it, and grow. There are times when I may want to give them the answer or step in to help, but I believe it is more important to help them develop the ability to think for themselves, make their own choices, and overcome challenges.
What is something interesting about the subject you teach?
I currently teach TOK (Theory of Knowledge), one of the core subjects of the DP. In TOK, students question what they know and how they know it, while reflecting deeply on their own ways of thinking and their values. Through this learning, I hope students will continue to think about who they want to be and how they can contribute to creating a better and more peaceful world, as envisioned by the IB.
Engaging with questions that have no clear answers is never easy. However, I hope students will discover the joy of new insights and personal growth along the way, and perhaps even find a small light of their own through the process of inquiry.
What has been the most rewarding moment of your teaching career so far?
I find great fulfillment as a teacher when I focus on each student’s strengths and think about how to bring those strengths out and connect them to learning. A year in secondary school may seem short, but it can be a very meaningful and intense time in a student’s life. When I see students make real progress and grow during this limited time, I am reminded once again of the joy of being an educator.
How would you describe KIA?
I feel that KIA is a school where, within the close-knit environment created by its small class sizes, each student’s personality and strengths can naturally shine. The school has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where students feel comfortable being themselves and have a strong sense of connection with one another.
Students also have many opportunities to take part in school events and projects across grade levels. Through these experiences, they learn from one another and grow together, creating a supportive environment where students can develop both academically and personally.

I feel that the teachers and staff at KIA take their roles seriously and approach their daily work in education with a strong sense of responsibility. They consistently strive to do their work to a higher standard than expected, and being surrounded by colleagues who are so dedicated to their work creates an environment where we can inspire one another and grow together.
Above all, putting students first is at the heart of every decision we make and every action we take. I believe that this shared commitment to putting students first supports the warm and positive atmosphere throughout the school.
