先生として最も大切にしていることは？
What is the most important thing to keep in mind as an educator?
My mantra for teaching is “connect before you correct.” I believe that meaningful teaching and learning come from strong, professional, and positive relationships between the teacher and the students. Rich learning happens when everyone in the class is on the same page. We are on the learning journey together, working as a team to build knowledge and solve problems.
私の指導におけるモットーは「訂正する前に繋がりを持とう」です。有意義な指導と学習は、教師と子どもの間に強く、プロフェッショナルで、前向きな関係が生まれるからこそ生まれると信じています。
豊かな学びは、クラス全員が同じ方向を向いている時に生まれます。私たちは共に学びの道を歩み、チームとして知識を構築し、問題を解決していくのです。
卒業後、どのような人になってほしいですか？
What qualities do you want the students to have after they graduate?
I want my students to leave school knowing that they are in charge of their own future. I hope their time at school helps them develop the ability to take responsibility for their actions, show resilience when facing challenges, and understand that hard work leads to success. I also want them to know that life is meant to be enjoyed, and they should take every opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun along the way.
子どもたちには、自分の未来は自分で切り拓くものだと自覚して、学校を卒業するようになってほしいと思っています。学校生活を通して、自分の行動に責任を持ち、困難に直面しても粘り強く立ち直り、努力が成功につながることを理解する力を育んでほしいと思っています。また、人生は楽しむためにあるのだと、そして成長し、探究し、そして人生を楽しむあらゆる機会を捉えるべきだということも知ってほしいと思っています。

What is something interesting about the subject you teach?
Unit of Inquiry is my favourite class to teach. I am often surprised, impressed, and humbled by the creativity students show and the wide range of knowledge they bring to class. What I love most about UOI is that it allows me to act as a facilitator of learning rather than simply delivering information. It is incredibly rewarding to create an environment where students can find answers to their own questions, learn through hands on experiences, and discover passions in subjects they may not have originally enjoyed.
探究学習は、私が教えるのが一番好きな授業です。子どもたちの創造性と幅広い知識に、驚き、感銘を受け、謙虚な気持ちになることがよくあります。UOIの一番の魅力は、単に情報を提供するだけでなく、学びを促進するファシリテーターとして活動できることです。子どもたちが自ら疑問に答えを見つけ、実践を通して学び、最初は興味がなかった分野にも情熱を見出せるような環境を作ることは、非常にやりがいのあることです。
これまでの教員生活で、特にやりがいを感じたことは？
What has been the most rewarding moment of your teaching career so far?
When I was teaching Grade 2, we organised a whole grade talent show for the last day of school. The students enthusiastically prepared a variety of acts, from singing and dancing to magic tricks and karate or judo demonstrations. We celebrated each other’s strengths, shared plenty of laughs, and ended the show with a special teacher performance followed by a whole class sing and dance.
私が2年生を教えていた頃、最終日に学年全体でタレントショーを企画しました。生徒たちは歌やダンス、手品、空手や柔道の演武など、さまざまな芸を熱心に準備してくれました。お互いの長所を称え合い、たくさんの笑いを共有し、最後に先生による特別パフォーマンスとクラス全員での歌とダンスでショーを締めくくりました。

What are your thoughts on working relationships with your coworkers and the support system?
The diversity of the staff cohort gives students the opportunity to engage with a wide range of perspectives, curriculum knowledge, and cultural backgrounds. The PYP curriculum supports this by allowing students to explore their own interests while developing a deep understanding of the world around them.
