KIAに編入された経緯を教えてください。

地元の公立小学校に通い続けることが難しくなったことが、編入を考えた直接のきっかけです。
アメリカ在住中も毎年夏休みには一時帰国し、日本の公立校へ体験入学をしており、本人も楽しんでいたため、4月の編入当初は問題なく適応できると考えておりました。
しかし、日々の学校生活が本格化するにつれ、5月頃から欠席が目立ち始め、6月には完全に足が向かなくなりました。
自信を失っていく姿を目の当たりにし、このままでは本人の自己肯定感が損なわれてしまうという強い危機感を抱きました。そこで、本人が『通いたい』と思え、その個性を認めて伸ばしてくれる環境を求めて学校探しを始めました。
その中で、関西国際学園の教育理念や探究型の学びに出会い、ここであれば本来の自分を取り戻し、意欲的に学んでいけるのではないかと考え編入を希望しました。

Because he had struggled at our local Japanese public elementary school, we decided to move to a different school. 

When he began attending a Japanese elementary school in April, we thought he would find his footing because he had enjoyed the trial lessons at the Japanese public school during the summer. 

However, as school started in full swing, he began to struggle. His absence became an issue in May and stopped going to school altogether in June. 

We were worried that he would lose his confidence and self-esteem. So, we started looking for a school that he would want to attend: a school that  would accept him for who he is and help him become the best version of himself. 

We came upon Kansai International Academy. We thought the school’s philosophy and its inquiry-based learning approach would help him rediscover his authentic self and motivate him to learn.

大きく分けて2つあります。
1つ目は、日本語の習得を土台とした、バイリンガル教育があるからです。
母国語で深く思考し、自分の言葉で表現する力こそが、すべての学びの根幹であり、その土台があるからこそ、知識やスキルが本当に自分のものになるのだと思います。外国語の習得も母国語の土台があっての事だと思います。

2つ目は、個性が尊重され、心理的な安心感を持って過ごせる環境であるからです。
公立校での経験から、一律の枠に自分を合わせようとして自信を失っていく姿を見てきました。だからこそ、違いを否定せず、ありのままの子どもの長所を見つけ、認めてもらえる環境を探しました。

There are two main reasons:
The first reason is that KIA offers a bilingual education where acquiring Japanese serves as the foundation for learning both languages.
Thinking and expressing your thoughts deeply in your native language is the foundation for all learning. Having that foundation allows you to build knowledge and skills. Also, learning a second language requires having a solid foundation in your native language.

The second reason is that everyone is respected, regardless of who they are, so it is an emotionally safe learning environment.
From watching our son attend a public school, we saw how changing yourself to fit a certain mold can take a person’s confidence away. We tried so hard to find an environment where every student’s strengths are cherished.

関西国際学園のカリキュラムの中で特に魅力的だと思われるものは？
What curriculum is particularly attractive at KIA?

３つあります。
1つ目は、『プロダクション』です。ドラマ教育での自己表現が、自信を回復させ、自己肯定感を高めてくれました。自分を客観的に深く理解できるようになり、「表舞台よりも世界観を構築する裏方が向いている」といった自身の適性に気づくことができました。その気づきが現在のグラフィックデザインの仕事という道に繋がっており、KIAでのドラマ教育がまさに将来を切り拓く原動力になったと思います。

2つ目は、『TOK』です。批判的に思考するプロセスがとても良かったと思います。一つの事象を多角的な視点で検証し、自分の言葉で論理的に構築し直す訓練を繰り返すことで自分自身の判断基準が生まれたように思います。

3つ目は、カリキュラムではありませんが『MYPプロクラム』そのものです。タイムマネージメントをはじめ、その学習スタイルが、さっそく大学での勉強や仕事の進め方に役立っているようです。うまくできなかった奏大に粘り強くお付き合いいただいた先生方ありがとうございました。

There are three things I would like to list.
The first is the School Production. Our son learned to express himself through the Drama classes, which helped him regain confidence and boosted his self-esteem. He also gained a deeper understanding of himself and realized that he was more suited to be backstage and help with worldbuilding. Realizing that helped him find his current job which is graphic design. The drama education at KIA had helped him find his future.

The second is TOK (Theory of Knowledge). The process of thinking critically was great for him. Looking at one phenomenon through different perspectives, expressing them logically using his own words, and repeating that process helped him create his own system of thinking.

The third is a bit broad but the MYP itself. Through the program, time management and the style of learning are something that he’s using for his studies at university and his job. Although he didn’t have the best handle at those skills while in KIA, I would like to thank all the teachers for being patient with our son.

Kansai International Academy has a culture of treating every student with respect and dignity. The students may not always take the shortest path but the school sees that as a sign of growth and works side by side with them.

Also, students engage with the IB program while building their Japanese language foundation that allows them to think deeply. Through the different courses, students learn to see things through different lenses and think for themselves.

During Drama class (especially during School Production), our child learned to see himself objectively and saw what he was suited for. What he learned at KIA has directly led to his university and job choices.

The calm environment allowed him to focus on his studies. Watching him grow up is the greatest form of happiness for us as parents. We made the right decision by choosing Kansai International Academy.
