Learning to do it scared: 12 years of learning to not be afraid of failure and of leading by example

Throughout your time at KIA, in which area do you feel you grew the most?

Put simply, I learned to try new things while being scared to do them. I still get anxious when I have to speak in public or enter a new environment. But at KIA, there have been many opportunities when I thought it would be better to try it and think about the consequences later, than to not try at all because I was scared. Through many trials and errors, I have built the courage to move forward.
I take a different approach to leadership now. It suits me better to lead by example and be the first person to try something than to inspire others through words.

Could you share your thought process for choosing a university and why you chose Musashi University?

When I returned from my study abroad program, I knew I would be better suited to interact with people and go into a business-related field rather than to go into research. I chose to go into economics and finances so I can make use of my English skills. I chose Musashi University specifically because the university offers a parallel degree program. I can take classes from London University while staying in Japan and graduate with a world-class degree. I was sure that the small-group, discussion-based style of learning at Musashi University would suit me, because it is similar to classes at KIA.
I chose the holistic admissions process over the entrance exam because I would be able to tell interviewers about my extracurricular activities, giving them the chance to see my character and passion in person. KIA prepared me for the admissions interview by teaching me to express my thoughts in my own words.

Do you have any favorite memories from elementary school? What are some things you are glad to have experienced?

I had fun especially during my G6 Exhibition and the Rube Goldberg machine that I made as a G3 with G4 students. In G6, I made sure to give it my all because it was my last year in elementary school but I regret not having tried more things earlier.

Do you have any tips on getting through DP? Also, please share some advice with current KIA students

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to stop striving for perfection. If you try to follow your schedule exactly, the slightest setback can throw you off. Break down tasks into small steps and take them one step at a time. That will help you reach the finish line the fastest.
Another thing you can do is to work out and exercise to build your physical and mental strength. If you are stuck on an assignment, go outside and start moving. This will help you clear your mind and have a positive mindset when you return to your desk.
