KIAでの学びで「一番良かったこと」「成長できたこと」は何ですか？

自分が好きなことをとことん探究し続けられることです。PYPエキシビションやCAS（創造性・活動・奉仕）、EE（課題論文）など自分の興味を深く掘り下げる機会が多く、それを保護者など大勢の前で発表する経験を重ねたことで、自信を持って自分の意見や考えを伝える力がつきました。

ヨーロッパの獣医大学を目指したきっかけと受験の道のりは？

小さい時から「動物を救いたい」という思いはありましたが、明確に獣医師を目指そうと決意したのは、中学生の時に参加した犬猫保護施設でのボランティア体験がきっかけでした。施設の方に「一番大変なことは何ですか？」と尋ねた際、医療費の工面が大きな負担になっている現状を知りました。自分が獣医師になれば、こうした施設や活動を医療の面から直接支え、負担を軽減できるのではないかと考えたんです。

進路を決めるにあたっては、元々ヨーロッパの文化が好きだったことや、動物愛護や獣医学の先進国で学びたいという強い思いがありました。将来的にグローバルに活躍できるよう、EU全域で通用するEAEVE認定を受けたリトアニア健康科学大学を選びました。

KIAでの探究教育（IB）は、あなたにとってどのように影響しましたか？

初等部でのPYPエキシビションをはじめ、自分で興味を持ったテーマを徹底的に掘り下げ、保護者や大勢の人たちの前で発表する機会が何度もあったことが今の私の自信になっています。自分の言葉で意見を伝える力が自然と身につきました。

また、大学の授業やレポート執筆において「粘り強く分からないことを問い続ける力」がとても役立っています。KIAでは、課題に対してただ知識を覚えるのではなく、自分が納得するまで調べるプロセスを徹底します。理解できないトピックがあっても諦めず、先生や教授に自ら質問しに行く行動力や、膨大な資料から論理的なレポートを書き上げるスキルは、間違いなくIBでの経験のおかげです。

後輩や保護者の皆様へアドバイスをお願いします！

【後輩へ】
中学生の頃からボランティアなどの課外活動をしておくと、DPでCASが始まった時に焦らずに済みます。志望校の入試要項を早めに逆算すること、分からないことは先生方にすぐ質問すること、そしてCASのリフレクションは溜め込まないことが鉄則です！

【保護者の方へ】
親が先回りして口を出す必要はなく、干渉しすぎずに見守ってくれたことが一番ありがたかったです。課題の合間に用意してくれた美味しいご飯やお菓子が何よりの支えでした。 

It all began with her volunteer work at an animal shelter during junior high school. She chose Europe to become a doctor of global standards to save animals, which has always been her dream.

 What was the best thing about learning at KIA? In what areas did you grow the most?

KIA presented me with so many ways to explore my interests in a deep way, such as the PYP Exhibition, CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) and the EE (Extended Essay). I also was able to present my opinions in front of people such as parents and guardians, which gave me confidence.

What made you choose a veterinarian school in Europe and what was the admissions process like?

I’ve been interested in animal rescue ever since I was little. I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian when I volunteered at a dog and cat shelter in junior high school. I asked the staff at the shelter what the biggest obstacle they were facing was and they told me that paying medical fees was quite challenging. I realized that I could support organizations like this by becoming a veterinarian and helping them with the medical and financial side of things. 

I’ve always loved European culture. I’ve also wanted to study in a country where animal protection and veterinary science are well-developed fields. I ultimately chose the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, which has received accreditation from the European Association for Medical Education (EAEVE) and is recognized throughout the EU. That would allow me to become a doctor on the global stage.

How did the inquiry-based IB education at KIA affect your growth?

There were so many opportunities for me like the PYP Exhibition in elementary school to explore my interests and give presentations to a large group of people such as parents and guardians, which has instilled confidence in me. I’ve developed the ability to express my thoughts using my own words in a natural way. 

For my university classes and essays, I’ve learned to contemplate over difficult problems, which is a skill I learned at KIA. I love that the learning process at KIA focuses on researching something deeply rather than memorizing facts. I’ve definitely learned to ask teachers for help and write an essay using a large amount of research material, which is something the IB prepared me for .

【To current KIA students】
If you participate in extracurricular activities like volunteering during MYP, you won’t need to panic when CAS starts in DP. Also, you should work backwards from when your first choice university admission process  starts. Ask a teacher right away if you don’t understand something and lastly, don’t let your CAS reflections pile up. 

【To parents and guardians】
I was grateful that my parents supported me and trusted me to make my own decisions. They made me delicious meals and snacks while I was studying, which was comforting.
