関西国際学園さくらインターナショナルスクールではこの夏、乳幼児部・幼稚園部のスタッフを対象に、中村学園長による「Company Creed（社是）」に関する研修を行いました。
当校が掲げる教育理念――「日英バイリンガルの探究学習を通して、創造力と責任感をもって国際社会に貢献するリーダーの育成」。 これを日々の保育や教育の現場で体現するためには、現場で子どもたちと向き合う一人ひとりのスタッフが、同じ信念を持ち、いきいきと行動していることが不可欠です。
今回の研修は、事前にスタッフへ実施したアンケートで上がったリアルな疑問や捉え方をもとに、学園長との対話形式で「社是の本当の意味」を深掘りする時間となりました。
研修で共有された、Company Creedに込められた想いをご紹介します。
情熱的であれ（Be Passionate）
Q. 仕事に「情熱がある」というのは、具体的にどういうことでしょうか？
A. 「目的を持つこと。」
ただ熱く頑張るだけでなく、目の前の活動や保育に対して「何のために行うのか」という明確な目的を持つこと。日々の小さな選択一つひとつに「目的」を持つ姿勢こそが、当校の考える情熱です。
ポジティブであれ（Be Positive）
Q. 「ここは改善した方がいい」と意見を言うことと、ネガティブであることは何が違いますか？
A. 「建設的な意見を適切に伝えること。」
不満を隠してただ明るく振る舞うことがポジティブではありません。問題や課題を感じたときに、黙り込むのではなく、「どうすればより良くなるか」という建設的な視点で意見を伝え合い、未来に向けた議論をすることこそが真のポジティブです。
謙虚であれ（Be Humble）
Q. なぜ教育者に「謙虚さ」が必要なのでしょうか？
A. 「自分はできていると思ったら、終わり。成長することは難しい。」
教育者として経験を積み自信を持つことは大切ですが、「自分は完璧だ」と思った瞬間に成長は止まってしまいます。「誰からでも学ぶ」「自分はまだ発展途上である」という謙虚な姿勢を持ち続ける教育者だからこそ、子どもたちの成長を真に支えることができます。
失敗から学べ（Be Reflective）
Q. 命や安全を預かる中で、「挑戦した結果起こる失敗」と「してはいけない失敗」はどう考えればいいですか？
A. 「やるべきことをやらずにする失敗は、怠慢。失敗と怠慢は違う。」
子どもたちの命に関わる失敗は絶対にやってはいけない。これは、必須です。安全確保や基本事項を怠った結果起こるものは「怠慢」であり、防ぐべきものです。一方で、しっかり準備をした上で挑戦し起こった、命に関わるようなことではない「失敗」を当校は悪としません。大切なのは、その失敗から学び、次にどう活かすかです。
エレガントであれ（Be Elegant）
Q. 忙しいときや心が折れそうなとき、どのようにエレガントさを実践されていますか？
A. 「姿勢に気を付ける。深呼吸して、笑う。」
エレガントさとは、見た目の綺麗さだけではありません。余裕がない時や八方塞がりの時こそ、すっと姿勢を正し、深呼吸をして笑顔を作る。自分の感情をコントロールし、周りに安心感を与える立ち振る舞いこそが、洗練されたプロフェッショナル（エレガント）の姿です。
すべては子どもたちのために（Do Everything for the Children）
Q. 「自分が頑張らなければ」と疲れ切ってしまうことと、子どものためを想う気持ちは、どう両立すればいいですか？
A. 「体力をつける。よく眠り、よく食べて、休憩する。自分をハッピーにする方法を知っておく。」
「すべては子どもたちのために」を実現するためには、教えている先生自身が満たされていることが絶対条件です。よく食べ、よく眠り、自分自身をハッピーに保つ。先生が心身ともに健康で満たされていてこそ、子どもたちへ最高の教育還元ができます。
情熱、ポジティブ、謙虚、リフレクション、エレガント ── これら5つの社是はすべて、最後に掲げる「すべては子どもたちのために」を実現するための要素です。
迷ったとき、立ち止まったときに、いつでもこの原点に立ち返る。 当校はこれからも、スタッフ一丸となって理念を体現し、子どもたちが未来へ羽ばたくための最高の探究環境をつくり続けてまいります。
Company creed
At the summer training session for Kansai International Academy and Sakura International School ELC&K staff, KIA founder Kumiko Nakamura gave a lecture about the company creed.
As stated in our school philosophy, our school commits to “Developing creative and responsible leaders who can contribute to global society through inquiry-based Japanese-English bilingual education”. It is essential for all staff to be on the same page to put our school philosophy into practice everyday.
For this training session, we took the time to answer questions filled out by the staff beforehand. The staff discussed the company creed with the founder to understand the essence of it.
Here, we would like to share the passion behind our company creed.
Be Passionate
Q. What does it mean to be passionate about your work?
A. Having a goal.
When taking care of children and completing tasks, it’s important to have a clear goal and to love what you are doing. Every action should be purposeful. That’s what being passionate means at our school.
Be Positive
Q. What’s the difference between saying “we need to fix this” and being negative?
A. We need to be constructive and express our opinion appropriately.
Being positive doesn’t mean hiding our frustrations and acting cheerful. To be truly positive means sharing constructive criticism, looking forward, and not staying quiet when a problem arises.
Be Humble
Q. Why is it important for educators to be humble?
A. You will stop growing when you think you are good enough.
Even though it’s important for educators to build confidence based on previous experiences, feeling that you are good enough prevents further growth. Believing that you can learn from anyone and that there’s always room for growth makes it possible to support your students’ growth.
Be Reflective
Q. Teachers are entrusted with the lives of children. How should we think about failures that occurred because we took on a challenge, as opposed to failures that should have never happened?
A. If you failed because you didn’t do something that you were supposed to do, then it’s negligence. There is a difference between laziness and negligence.
Failures that could endanger the lives of children should never happen. This is imperative. It’s negligence to ignore safety checks or basic procedures and that should be avoided at all costs. On the other hand, if you follow the right procedures and no lives are threatened when a failure occurs, KIA will not count it against you.The most important thing is to learn from mistakes and make better decisions in the future.
Be Elegant
Q. How do you exude elegance when you’re busy or feeling down?
A. Watch your posture. Take a deep breath and smile.
Elegance isn’t just about how you present yourself. When you’re struggling with something, pause, take a deep breath and smile. Control your emotions and be a source of comfort to others. That’s what a true professional does.
Do Everything for the Children
Q. How can I maintain my passion for teaching children when I am burned out?
A. Build stamina. Sleep well, eat well, and rest well. Know what brings you joy.
To put our school motto, “Do everything for the children,” into practice, it is essential that the teachers themselves are happy. That is why eating well, sleeping well, and being happy are important. Teachers provide the best education when they are physically and mentally healthy.
Our company creed, which includes elements such as passion, positivity, humility, and elegance, helps us turn our school motto, “Do everything for the children,” into a reality.
Our company creed will serve as a guiding light for our staff when they feel lost or stagnant. KIA will continually work to bring our school philosophy to life and create the best learning environment for children to leap into the future.
