関西国際学園が25年間にわたり積み上げてきた「日英バイリンガル教育」と「探究学習」。
この確かな基盤にプラスして、子どもたちに「自然の中で生きる力」と「本当のウェルビーイング」を届けたい。
来春オープンする【山のキャンパス】に向けて、関西国際学園の教員チームは徳島県神山町を訪れました。お話を伺ったのは、大自然と共に生きる豊かなライフスタイルを実践されている、オニヴァ（On y va）の齊藤郁子さんです。
郁子さんは、昨年から本校の中高等部の生徒たちが、夏休みの「サバイバルキャンプ」で大変お世話になっている、KIAにとって大切なパートナーでもあります。
郁子さんの自然に対する深いまなざしや、命を育む場づくりのお話から、私たちはたくさんのインスピレーションをいただきました。
郁子さんから語られるミツバチの生態系の神秘や、命を育む農園のお話は、どれも私たちの五感を刺激するものばかり。子どもたちが主体的に学ぶ「探究（Inquiry）」のヒントとなるインスピレーションをたくさんいただきました。
「私たちが25年間大切にしてきた探究学習を、菊水山の豊かな自然にどう掛け合わせるか？」
「川の生物観察から、どんなグローバルな環境課題に繋げられるか？」
「これまで培ってきた英語と日本語での表現力を、この大自然の中でどう開花させるか？」
夜遅くまで、先生たちで熱いディスカッションが繰り広げられました。
確かな実績があるからこそ、次の挑戦がある。
神戸の豊かな大自然の中で、自ら問いを立て、五感で学び、生きる力を育む。

Building on our school history by adding a new layer
At Kansai International Academy, we have been a Japanese-English bilingual and inquiry-based learning school for the past 25 years.
On top of our solid educational foundation, we are looking for ways in which students can gain new skills such as surviving in nature and pursuing true well-being.
In preparation for the opening of the Mountain Campus, our teaching staff has visited Kamiyama, Tokushima. We heard from Ms. Ikuko Saito, who is the CEO of On y va who is practicing a nature-rich lifestyle.
The KIA secondary students owe her a great deal from her help with their survival camp last summer and she is a crucial partner to our school.
Her deep contemplations about nature and her efforts to create an environment in which students can learn how precious life is have inspired us greatly.
As she described how the bee ecosystem functions and her farm, we could picture the scenery with all five senses. She has inspired us to connect nature to inquiry themes to help students be engaged.
We asked ourselves, “How can we connect our 25 years of perfecting inquiry-based learning to the lush nature of Kikusuiyama”?
On the night of our visit, the teacher discussions continued well into the night.
They asked each other questions like “How can we connect what we observe in our river to global environment issues?” and “How can the students utilize their language skills that they’ve been building on in nature?”
We are able to take on new challenges because of our past accomplishments.
Students will learn to ask themselves questions, learn using their five senses and gain skills to help them thrive.
We are striving for a new kind of education, where students learn the skills they need to thrive in the future. Please look forward to it!
