2月21日、本校では第6回となるG11（高校2年生）によるTOKエキシビジョンを開催しました。
TOK（Theory of Knowledge／知の理論）は、IBディプロマ・プログラム（DP）の必修科目の一つです。現代社会が抱える諸課題や身近な具体例を手がかりに、「知識とは何か」「私たちはどのように知るのか」といった根源的な問いを探究します。本学園のバイリンガル環境の中で、生徒たちは多様な言語・文化的視点を往還しながら、知識の性質とその形成プロセスを批判的に考察しています。
G11の生徒一人ひとりが自ら選んだ3つの事物を通して、私たちを取り巻く世界の中にTOKがどのように存在しているのかを分析し、個別プレゼンテーションを行いました。MPルームでは展示形式も取り入れ、ご来場の皆さまと対話を重ねることで、問いをさらに深める姿が見られました。発表は単なる成果報告にとどまらず、「知ること」に伴う前提・バイアス・限界に向き合う知的挑戦の場となりました。
下級生にとっては、DPで学ぶ先輩たちの姿を間近に見る貴重な機会となりました。高度な思考力や探究心に触れることで、自らの将来像や学びの在り方を具体的にイメージするきっかけにもなったことでしょう。同時に、知識をめぐる葛藤や複雑さ、そして多様な視点の重要性を実感する時間となりました。
関西国際学園はこれからも、言語の枠を越え、世界と対話できる思考力を育む学びを推進してまいります。
The G11 TOK Exhibition was held for the sixth time at Kansai International Academy on February 21.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is a mandatory subject in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). In this core DP subject, students are tasked with answering fundamental questions such as “What is knowledge?” and “How do we know what we know?”. Students use real-life examples from our society and community to answer these questions. They also analyze problems from linguistic and cultural perspectives bilingually in order to think critically about the nature of knowledge and how it is formed.
The G11 students gave individual presentations based on the three objects they chose to analyze the presence of TOK in the world around us. The gallery format in the MP Room encouraged dialogue between the audience members and the presenter to deepen their understanding. Rather than a presentation of their conclusion, the exhibition was an intellectual exercise to challenge our assumptions, biases and limits about what it means to know something.
It was an important opportunity for our younger students, who are not yet DP students, to see what the DP students in the upper grades are learning up close. Seeing the high-level thinking skills and inquiry of their older peers helped them envision their own future learning and growth. At the same time, they learned the complexities and the contradictory nature of knowledge as well as the importance of using multiple perspectives to truly understand something.
At KIA, we will continue fostering critical thinking skills needed to engage with the world beyond the boundaries of language.
