さくらインターナショナルスクール文京校のK2（年中クラス）の学習についてご紹介します。
探究ユニット（UOI）では、教科を越えたテーマ「世界はどのような仕組みになっているのか」について深掘りしています。
「素材の性質や相互作用を理解することで、その活用方法が決まる」というセントラルアイデア（Central Idea）を通じ、子どもたちはさまざまな素材を調査しました。
実験を繰り返して特性を学び、日常生活で素材がどう選ばれているのかを話し合う姿が見られました。こうした実体験に基づいた学びは、教室での探究を身近な世界へと結びつける大切な機会となっています。
言語学習では、フォニックスと「トリッキー・ワード」のフェーズ3を修了し、多くの子どもたちが自信を持って音を組み合わせ、読んだり綴ったりできるようになっています。
聞き取る力や読解力も高まり、読んだ内容について自分の考えを話し、議論する力もついてきました。日々のライティング練習の積み重ねが、丁寧な文字の形成と書くことへの自信につながっています。
算数の学習では、時間の読み方をマスターし、実生活に即した数え方の問題を解いたり、体験を通して引き算の概念を学んだりしました。これらのスキルは、子どもたちが自ら論理的に考え、問題を解決していく力となっています。
学習面はもちろんですが、何より喜ばしいのは、子どもたちの精神的な成長です。
相手の話を注意深く聞き、責任を持ってルーティンをこなし、思慮深い質問を投げかけ、友だちと協力して活動できるようになりました。
困難に直面しても諦めない心や、新しいことに挑戦する姿勢は、年度当初からの大きな成長の証です。
K2を締めくくるにあたり、私たちは一人ひとりの素晴らしい歩みを心から讃えたいと思います。
自信に満ち、意欲あふれる子どもたちが、これからも「学びの旅」を続けていくことを楽しみにしています。皆さんの成果を誇りに思います。K3（年長クラス）でもさらに輝く姿を期待しています！
As we step towards the end of the school year, it is a proud and reflective time for the K2B community. What a journey this year has been! Our students have grown not only in size but also in confidence, independence, and their love for learning. As the school year draws to a close, K2B students are showing just how ready they are to take their next exciting step into K3.
Our current Unit of Inquiry, under the transdisciplinary theme “How the World Works,” has captured students’ curiosity and encouraged deep thinking. Through the central idea “Understanding the way materials behave and interact determines how people use them,” children have explored different materials, experimented with their properties, and discussed how materials are chosen for everyday purposes. These hands-on experiences have helped students make meaningful connections between the classroom and the world around them.
In language learning, K2B students have made remarkable progress. Having successfully completed Phase 3 phonics and Phase 3 tricky words, many children are confidently blending sounds for both reading and spelling. Listening and reading comprehension skills have strengthened, and students are increasingly able to understand, respond to, and discuss what they read. Regular handwriting practice has also supported clearer letter formation and greater writing confidence.
Mathematics learning has been equally exciting. Students have learned to read time, solve practical counting problems, and explore subtraction through hands-on and real-life contexts. These skills have helped them become more independent problem-solvers and logical thinkers.
Beyond academics, one of the most rewarding changes has been the students’ overall growth in maturity. They listen attentively, follow routines responsibly, ask thoughtful questions, and work cooperatively with their peers. Their resilience, curiosity, and willingness to try new challenges reflect how far they have come since the beginning of the year.
As we prepare to say goodbye to K2, we celebrate the incredible progress of our learners. K2B students are confident, capable, and eager to continue their learning journey. We are so proud of everything they have achieved and are excited to see them shine as they move on to K3.
