先生として最も大切にしていることは？ What is the most important thing to keep in mind as an educator?
私が最も大切にしているのは「一人ひとりの個性」です。平等とは同じことをすることではなく、その子の個性やペースに合わせて関わることだと考えています。
子どもたちには、自分の「いいところ」に気づき、自信を持ってほしいと思います。また、苦手なことについても克服の方法を一緒に見つけていけるようにサポートしています。その際、年齢や学年だけで決めつけるのではなく、その子にとって今必要な学びや進み方を大切にしています。
「やってみること」と「振り返ること」を積み重ねながら、自分らしい成長を実感できるように導いていきたいと思っています。
When I teach, I keep each student’s individual characteristics in mind. Treating students equally doesn’t mean that I treat them all the same, but it means that I adapt my behavior to suit each student’s uniqueness and learning pace.
I want students to see the positive aspects of their own personalities and be confident. I help each student find ways to overcome challenges. I consider their age and grade and the learning and teaching methods that would serve them the most in this moment.
I want to help them grow through hard work and reflection so that they can develop in an authentic way.
特に力を入れている分野は？ Your specialty or area of focus
これまでELCの保育補助、幼稚園部の日本語専任講師、そして初等部の担任を経験し、ずっとKIAの生徒や保護者の皆さまと共に歩んできました。
現在はSST（Student Support Team）の一員として、一人ひとりのお子様が持つ個性をどう守り、どう磨いて輝かせていけるかを常に考えています。子どもたちはそれぞれ、今必要なことや学びやすい方法が違います。その「違い」を大切にしながら、自分らしさを見つけて生かしていくために、どのようなサポートが必要かを探求することに力を入れています。
I was an ELC assistant teacher, a kindergarten Japanese teacher, and a homeroom teacher in elementary school. I’ve been on a long journey with the KIA students, parents and guardians.
As a member of the SST, I am always thinking about how to tailor my teaching style to each student’s personality. Every student has different needs and learns differently. My focus is on providing the right kind of support for each student, honoring their differences, and helping them find their true selves.
卒業後、どのような人になってほしいですか？ What qualities do you want the students to have after they graduate?
KIAでの学びを通して、挑戦を乗り越えた先にある達成感や自信をすでに経験してきました。その力を生かし、これからも「まずやってみよう」と一歩を踏み出せる人であってほしいです。
そのために、私は「挑戦する気持ち」を育むことを大切にしています。小学生までの小さな成功体験の積み重ねが自信につながり、困難に直面したときにも前向きに取り組める力になるからです。また、さまざまな文化や価値観に触れる中で「違いを当たり前として受け止め、尊重できる心」を育むことにも注力しています。
そして何より、自分の幸せを自分で選び取れるように、自分を客観的に見つめる力や感情を整える力を身につけてほしいと願っています。そうした力が、グローバル社会の中でしなやかに生き、自分らしく未来を切り開く原動力になると信じています。
Through past challenges, students at KIA know what it means to have a sense of accomplishment and confidence. I want them to remember that feeling the next time they take on a challenge and say to themselves: “Let’s give it a try”.
I try to instill in them the desire to challenge themselves. The small victories that they experience in elementary school build their confidence and allow them to persevere when facing difficult challenges later on in life. Also, I focus on instilling in students to view differences between people as normal and respect them when they encounter different cultures and values.
Most of all, I hope that the students will have the ability to choose their own happiness by looking inward and regulating their emotions. These abilities will give them the foundation for them to persevere in this global society and carve out a future for themselves.
担当教科の面白さは？ What is something interesting about the subject you teach?
子どもたちはよく「できない」と口にします。それは、まだ成功体験が少なく、前例がないことに不安を感じているからだと思います。だからこそ、私は一人ひとりに寄り添い、さまざまな方法を試しながら、目標を達成できるようにとことん向き合うことを大切にしています。
「できない」が「できた」に変わったときの子どもたちの表情や喜びは、本当に特別なものです。その瞬間に立ち会えるのは、どの学年・どのクラスを担当していても同じで、教師として大きな喜びです。
こうした経験ができるのは、KIAが子どもたちの主体性や個性を尊重しているからだと思います。子どもたちには、「できるようになる自分」と出会うことで、自信を持ち、さらに新しい挑戦に向かっていけるようになってほしいです。
Students will often say “I can’t do it”. That may come from the fact that they may not be able to visualize what success looks like because they haven’t experienced it yet. I pay attention to each student and try various ways to help them reach their goals.
It is a special moment to see them go from “I can’t do it” to “I did it!”. As a teacher, seeing that moment in real time is such a joy no matter which grade or class I am teaching.
These experiences are only possible at KIA because we respect each student and empower them to be themselves. We encourage students to take on new challenges, discover a new version of themselves, gain confidence, and take on even more challenges.
これまでの教員生活で、特にやりがいを感じたことは？What has been the most rewarding moment of your teaching career so far?
小学校に入ると、「漢字が嫌い」「算数が嫌い」と感じる子がいます。なぜ「嫌い」と思うのかを一緒に探りながら、さまざまな方法を試していくと、多くの場合「自分に合った学び方」が違っていたことに気づきます。
自分に合った方法を見つけたとき、子どもたちは少しずつ「できる」経験を積み重ね、やがて「楽しくなってきた」「好きになった」「もっとやりたい」と言ってくれるようになります。その瞬間が、教師として最もやりがいを感じる場面であり、子どもたちの成長を間近で感じられる幸せな瞬間でもあります。
When students enter elementary school, they often say that they don’t enjoy learning kanji or math. By understanding why that is the case and trying different methods, they soon realize they were learning in a way that didn’t suit them.
Once they discover a learning method that works for them, they say that they enjoy it and want to try more. Seeing them grow up close is the most rewarding part of being a teacher.
KIAはどんなところですか？ How would you describe KIA?
KIAでは、子どもたち一人ひとりの「好き」や「得意」を生かせる場がたくさんあります。
漢字に興味がある子は創作漢字コンテスト、算数が好きな子は算数オリンピック、読書や作文が好きな子は作家大賞、運動が好きな子はスポーツデー、ダンスや演技が好きな子はKIAプロダクション。英語が好きな子はスペリングビーや英語スピーチコンテストで力を発揮できます。授業でもグループワークのリーダーなど、協力することで輝ける機会があります。
もちろん、苦手なことを嫌いにならないよう支援することも大切ですが、それ以上に「自分の得意を見つけて芽を出す」経験がとても大切だと感じています。ちょっとしたきっかけで子どもががらりと変わり、保護者の方も想像もしなかった姿を見せてくれる瞬間を、これまで何度も見てきました。
そして、その成長を最大限に引き出すためには、ご家庭との連携が欠かせません。子どものチャレンジに寄り添い、一緒に応援していくことで、学校と家庭が同じ方向を向きながら子どもの成長を支えられるのだと思います。保護者の方と共に、その変化や喜びを分かち合えることも、KIAならではの魅力です！
At KIA, students with a variety of interests and strengths can shine.
For students who like kanji, it’s the Kanji Making Contest. For those who enjoy math, it’s the Math Olympics. For students who like reading and writing, it’s the Japanese Writing Contest. For students who love exercising, it’s Sports Day. For students who like dancing and singing, it’s KIA Production. For students who like English, it’s the Spelling Bee and Speech Contest. During class, they can be the leader who is in charge of the group work. Through cooperation, they each can shine in their own way.
It is important to support them so that they don’t end up hating the things they find difficult and it is even more important to identify their interests and help them develop those talents. Even the smallest moment can inspire a student to grow so much that it even surprises their own parents.
Students cannot grow to their fullest potential without the help of parents and guardians. Parents can support their children’s journeys and cheer them on. Being able to see them grow and share in their happiness is unique to KIA.
KIAの教育の魅力は何だと思いますか？What do you think makes the education at KIA appealing?
一つ目は、先生たちがとにかく情熱的であることです。自分のクラス全体を大切にしながらも、一人ひとりの歩みに寄り添う“伴奏者”でありたいという思いがとても強い先生たちばかりです。子どもたちのために「どんな学びをどう導き、どんな経験を積ませたいか」を常に考え、全力でサポートしています。
二つ目は、先生の国籍が非常に多様であることです。英語を通して世界の歴史や社会問題を学ぶだけでなく、その国出身の先生からリアルな体験や文化背景を直接聞くことができます。その中で「国によって当たり前が違う」ということに気づきます。高学年になると、「常識って自分が育った環境の中でつくられたものなんだ」と自然に理解し始め、ものごとをいろんな角度から考えられるようになります。
三つ目は、子どもたち一人ひとりが「ありのままの自分」でいられる場所であることです。個性を尊重される安心感があるからこそ、自分らしく振る舞うことができ、ときには衝突や葛藤も経験します。そのすべてを、仲間や見守ってくれる大人たちと共に乗り越えていけることは、自分の意思を大切にし始める思春期に入る前の大切な時期に、このような経験を積めることはとても良い学びになると感じています。
First of all, teachers at KIA are very passionate. While engaging with the class as a whole, teachers see each student as their collaborators. Teachers are constantly thinking about how they can guide students in their learning, what they should learn and what kind of experiences they should have.
Secondly, the teachers come from diverse backgrounds. Through English, we discuss history, current and their real-life experiences as well as their cultural backgrounds. The students will reach the conclusion that each country has things that they consider normal. Once they reach the upper grade levels, they will realize that common sense is shaped by their environment. They learn to see things from different perspectives.
Thirdly, KIA is a place where each student can be themselves. They can be themselves because they know that everyone around them will respect them. Students will clash with each other and will experience internal conflict. Going through these challenges with the support of friends and adults is an important part of the learning process during adolescence when students begin to form their own opinions.

お子様の個性や可能性をまずじっくり見つめてあげてください。
学校での姿と家庭での姿は少し違うかもしれませんが、どちらも大切な一人の子どもです。その両方を同じ方向でサポートできることが、子どもたちが安心して前に進むためにとても大切です。
KIAは自由な環境で二言語学習を行う学校だからこそ、子ども達が不安や悩みを感じることもあるかもしれません。そんな時も、教職員と保護者が力を合わせて支えていくことで、子どもたちは少しずつ自信を持って前に進めます。
