What is the most important thing to keep in mind as an educator?
教育活動において、私が最も大切にしていることは、子どもたちの心を育てることです。
私は、将来子どもたちには、自分の好きな道を進み、それぞれの分野で輝いてほしいと考えています。そのためには、学力だけでなく、自分の信念を持ち、それを表現する力、多角的に考える力、他者を尊重しながらコミュニケーションを取っていく力が非常に重要です。小学校生活という大切な時期に、これらの力を身につけられるよう、日々サポートしています。
My focus is to enrich the inner lives of my students.
I want my students to choose their own paths and shine in the field that they choose. In order to achieve that, they need to do more than work hard academically. They also need to have conviction, express themselves, see different perspectives, and communicate in a respectful manner. My job is to help the students to acquire these skills during elementary school, which is a crucial period of their lives.

特に子どもたちの自立心を育てることに力を入れています。日々の学校生活の中で、マナーや礼儀正しさ、思いやりの心を大切にしながら指導しています。これらの生活面での成長を支えるために、日々パートナーの先生と密にコミュニケーションをとり、子どもたち一人ひとりの成長を見守り、サポートしています。
これらの力が備わっていなければ、質の高い学びにつなげることはできません。そのため、こうした生活面でのサポートに特に力を入れています。
My focus is on fostering the students’ independence. When I teach them, I emphasize the importance of being mannerly, polite and considerate in daily interactions. To nurture these qualities, I communicate with my teaching partner everyday and to make sure they receive the support necessary.
Students acquiring these qualities is crucial to a high quality learning so I emphasize them on a daily basis.
卒業後、どのような人になってほしいですか？
What qualities do you want the students to have after they graduate?
子どもたちには、卒業後に自分が選んだ道を思い切って進み、失敗を恐れずに様々なことに挑戦して欲しいと考えています。そのために、日頃から自分で考えること、自信を持つこと、人と比べないこと、信念を持つこと、そして相手を尊重することの大切さを伝えています。
When the students graduate, I want them to choose their own path without being afraid to fail. I emphasize the importance of thinking independently, having confidence, not comparing themselves to others, holding strong beliefs and respecting others.
担当教科の面白さは？
What qualities do you want the students to have after they graduate?
日本語、算数、UOIなど、どの教科でもどんなテーマでも、授業を組み立てる際には、身近なことだけでなく、他の地域ではどうなっているのか、世界ではどうなっているのか、といった点にも目を向けさせ、子どもたちに国際的な視野を持ってもらうことを意識しています。
その結果、子どもたちは自然と異文化に興味を持ち、自主的に考えたり調べたりする姿が見られるようになります。また、友達同士で教え合ったり、教師自身も子どもたちから知らなかったことを教わったりするなど、共に学ぶ環境が生まれることは、とても面白く、誇りに思っています。
子どもたちには、これからも学校で学んだことを実生活に結び付け、自分なりにさまざまな発見をしてほしいと考えています。
I make sure to include a global perspective and point students to what is happening in other countries or regions in my classes on any subject or theme. This way, my students can be globally minded, whether the subject is Japanese, math, or UOI.
As a result, students develop an interest in other cultures and begin to think and research them in an authentic way. They also teach each other and even the teachers, resulting in the teachers gaining new knowledge, which is always fascinating. I am proud that this educational environment fosters a two-way learning experience.
I want the students to connect what they learn in the classroom to the real world and discover all kinds of things.

How would you describe KIA?
KIAには、どんな時も子どもたちの考えを尊重するスタッフが多くいます。正しくないことはしっかりと指導しますが、基本的には子どもたちに寄り添い、ともに成長していく教育環境が整っています。学校全体の雰囲気もとても温かく、子どもたちが安心して学び、楽しむことのできる場所だと思います。
The KIA staff always respects the children’s opinions. Of course, teachers will correct them when necessary. However, teachers work together and grow alongside the children. KIA has a warm atmosphere where children can feel safe and enjoy themselves.
KIAの教育の魅力は何だと思いますか？
What do you think makes the education at KIA appealing?
KIAの魅力は、英語学習にとどまらず、英語と日本語の両言語を使って、子どもたちが興味を持ったことを自主的に探究できる環境が整っていることです。
たとえ英語力が優れていても、それだけではこれからの社会で通用するとは限りません。だからこそ、今から多言語や異文化の知識をツールとして活用しながら、自分の「好き」や「得意」を見つけていける学びの場があることは、この学校の大きな強みだと思います。
What makes KIA appealing is that there is an environment to learn both English and Japanese and be active in their inquiry learning. The KIA curriculum goes beyond language acquisition.
Simply acquiring English skills doesn’t guarantee future success in our ever-changing society. KIA’s strength is providing an environment where students can discover their interests and strengths while engaging with multiple languages and knowledge about different cultures.
