What were your reasons for entering the elementary school?
We raised our children from kindergarten on with the hope that they would grow up to have broad perspectives. My oldest son went to an international school for kindergarten but went to a public school for elementary school. But we always felt limited by the Japanese education system that emphasizes rote memorization and test scores. One day, we came across Kansai International Academy and we were impressed. We were interested in the Japanese-English curriculum that also values the Japanese identity and we decided to transfer into the school.
What were your reasons for entering the secondary school?
The KIA curriculum is rewarding because the students try to find an answer while respecting each person’s point of view for their inquiry-based discussions and problem solving so we felt that it could help my children build various skills such as social skills. It was our wish to continue with a PYP, MYP and then DP education that would be continuous that would also build their character, and that was what our child wanted. So we decided to go to secondary school.
What curriculum is particularly attractive at KIA?
At KIA, knowledge and language are simply tools. We are blessed that the school emphasizes process and the expression of thought in presentations, discussions, posters and reports. In addition, the short-term study abroad program to New Zealand during elementary school and the year-long study abroad program during secondary school are great opportunities for students to develop character and self-confidence.

There are many opportunities for students to take ownership such as studying abroad, extracurricular activities, KIA production and so on. By participating in these activities, the students are able to hone their leadership skills. Because it’s a small school, the students receive so much support in their studies and in choosing their future paths.
