美術という教科は現状、広く一般的に「副教科」と呼ばれ、大抵の場合は高校や大学の受験でも出題されず、力を入れ塾で学ぶということもありません。ところが、IBにおいてはDPの最終スコアにも反映される(教科選択による)一つの重要な教科として位置付けられています。
もちろん、大学入試に関連するから、という理由だけでその教科の重要度は推し量れませんが、世界的に美術の重要性が認められていることの一つの証左となると考えることはできます。そういった背景を踏まえ、今回はMYPとDPにおける美術の学びの意義を、KIAでの授業、生徒作品の紹介を通してご紹介します。

Visual arts is a subject that is usually considered an elective. In most cases, it is not included in high school and university entrance exams, and cram schools tend not to focus on it. However, it is considered important enough to be included as a DP subject that a student can choose and their score for the subject will be reflected in their final DP score.
Of course, the importance of a subject cannot be measured by whether it is considered in the university admissions process, but it can be an indicator of how important visual arts are considered globally. With this in mind, we would like to talk to you about the importance of visual arts in the MYP and DP, using examples from the classroom and student work.
