8月9日から17日までの約10日間、中高等部のG7・G8生徒5名が、オーストラリア・ブリスベンにある Hills International College を訪問し、短期留学を行いました。
到着後すぐにホストファミリーと合流し、祝日を含む週末を一緒に過ごした生徒たち。週明けからは現地の授業に参加し、英語での学びや交流を楽しみながら、それぞれ積極的に挑戦しました。最初は慣れない環境に戸惑うかと思われましたが、すぐに現地の仲間に溶け込み、放課後もホストファミリーとのお出かけや家庭での団らんを満喫しました。
授業では、単元の途中からの参加にも関わらず課題に取り組み、質問をしたりして学びを深める姿が見られました。また、日本語の授業では“先生役”としてクラスメイトをサポートし、バイリンガルとしての強みを発揮する場面もありました。
最終日には修了証と記念品をいただき、クラスメイトから「写真を撮ろう！」と声をかけられるなど、温かな交流で締めくくられました。多くの体験を経て、大きく成長した5人。G9からの長期留学に向けて、自信と弾みをつけた様子でした。
From August 9 to 17, five students from Grades 7 and 8 of the Secondary School visited Hills International College in Brisbane, Australia, for a short-term study abroad program lasting about ten days.
Upon arrival, the students immediately met their host families and spent the holiday and weekend together. Starting the following week, they joined local classes, enjoying both learning and interaction in English while embracing new challenges with enthusiasm. Although we anticipated some confusion in an unfamiliar environment at first, they quickly blended in with their peers, and after school, they also enjoyed outings and family time with their hosts.
In class, despite joining partway through the units, they engaged with assignments and deepened their learning by asking questions. In Japanese lessons, they even took on the role of “teacher,” supporting their classmates and showcasing the strengths of being bilingual.
On the final day, they received certificates of completion and commemorative gifts. Their classmates warmly asked, “Let’s take pictures together!”, a gesture that beautifully marked the end of their exchange.
Through this rich experience, the five students grew remarkably and gained confidence and momentum as they look ahead to longer-term study abroad opportunities starting in Grade 9.
