Let’s Challenge Education!

School President Kumiko Nakamura

English is positioned as a communication tool and common language. You may be asked what you can do with English.

In such a social situation, Kansai International Academy aims to raise students to be “Japanese who has a global vision” in immersion program incorporated international curriculum. Lots of students had graduated Kansai International Academy since KIA opened. They had perfectly grown up bilingually.

In April 2014, we concentrated the elementary school in Kobe, a cosmopolitan city and increased a size of our school to accept more students and foster “Japanese leaders” as many as can. Total area is 6,611.57㎡. We created an unconstrained leaning environment. We expect students to learn not only English but Japanese Language and culture to cultivate an “identity as Japanese” needed for cosmopolitan.

People have their own interests. The nature of modern concept of academic ability is to cultivate the capacity of the way to study what they are interested in without indicating the direction in advance. There should be common things in the methodology for the study what they are interested in such as data gathering, mathematical analysis, critical thinking.

According to this concept, if there is the assembly of historical knowledge, the questions of what you know about what percentage of its assembly will make nonsense.

In addition, the purpose of education is not intended to master contents of “textbooks” standardized in advance.

In other words, the contents of academic ability become the process and meta-academic ability. The meta-academic ability is applied to each person.

Welcome to Kansai International Academy

Secondary School PrincipalHiroko Takagi

Kansai International Academy established as a stocked company exists as a combined school from early learning center through high school in Kobe city surrounded by sea and mountains. Students grown up in Japan can cultivate the spirit of harmony while respecting diversity and developing an international awareness. We support students to grow together, with pride individually to contribute to the evolving society as members of next generation.

We believe the elementary school education assumes an important role as the basis for learning. Using language can be a skill. But in other words, it is only one skill of other skills. We expect students to spend time in reflecting on their feelings, having interests in surroundings, knowing the fun of learning, setting a target, expressing themselves, and getting absorbed in something. In school life, students have every opportunity to learn with using English and Japanese from what meets different individual needs to tasks which students work together. We would like to keep being a school where students graduate with confidence and come see again.

For the above, it requires the development of curriculum which is constantly evolving, the growth for staffs themselves, and collaborations with families. We are neither all the same in our school community nor in the world. Each child will have a responsibility as a member of community. We strongly hope future leaders of high caliber who are responsible for their behavior and have their own opinion and accept the difference with others will contribute a society to come.
